A few years back, a large regional garbage collection company came through our Northeast Pennsylvania area and bought up 90% of the small, independent companies. This company at the time provided a good service at a fair price.
The problem at hand stems from a deal done in early 2020. That large regional company was purchased by a MASSIVE multi-national garbage collection service. From that point on, most residents of Mountain Top noticed a major problem. Garbage not being picked up, no communication, etc.
Why Big Companies Don’t Work
These large corporations that purchase small garbage companies do so for one reason and one reason only: stock prices. If they can report to their shareholders that they purchased a garbage collection service for a fair price with thousands of customers, their share price goes up!
The focus for these large waste hauling conglomerates is not to make money by providing a fair, reliable service. Instead it is solely based on their stock prices. For example, this is the stock price of a well-known national garbage company.
Why Mountain Top sees the worst of it
Mountain Top, PA is a unique area in the fact that it is quite literally a large town on top of a mountain. There is a significant number of households which requires a dedicated fleet of waste collection trucks. Where Mountain Top is located provides a logistical challenge to most large garbage companies as they try to “overallocate” their resources. While this may work in rural areas or densely populated cities this does not work in this area.
There is a good, local garbage company that services the residents of Mountain Top, but their customer list is full. They are doing it correctly, because instead of over-promising and under-delivering they are knowing when to cry “uncle” with customer count.
How Prestige Disposal is going to fix Mountain Top Garbage
This has been a long time coming. We have gotten hundreds of calls over the past 2 years from residents of the Mountain Top area asking us to come service them for their garbage collection needs.
